I return to the normal routine tomorrow. The two-hour commute and work. The routine I knew before all of this. This time I’m committing myself to working only eight hour days.
Why? Because I don’t want to spend most of my time at work anymore. There’s a burning desire inside of me now to accomplish more outside of it. To experience more, to create more.
We said farewell to my mom last week.
The finality of that is incomprehensible to me.
Where does one go? Is there a soul? Or is one’s entire existence somehow embedded within the physiological systems that allow us to exist in this manifested universe? When those systems stop functioning, is that simply it?
My mind can’t comprehend any of it.
I feel sadness, but part of me doesn’t want to acknowledge it. Acknowledging it seems to trigger some chemical release inside of me that results in tears and misty eyes.
I’ll choose to stay busy and focus on other matters. Maybe that’s simply how I process things.
We’re all headed there, every single one of us. We’re all going to die at some point.
The idea of chasing immortality has always baffled me, and yet lately I’ve found myself strangely fascinated by the concept of cryogenic preservation. Perhaps because death suddenly feels less theoretical than it once did.
Humanity has yet to experience a lifetime in which death has been conquered. Yet, countless people have found meaning in trying to understand it, delay it, or defeat it.
I suppose I shouldn’t waste my time trying to understand something my mind may never be capable of processing.
The true lesson…. Don’t waste your time and enjoy what you have while you have it.
Eventually we will be gone too.
